How claim track records shape our advice

Quick answer

HealAssist records the outcome of every pre-authorisation and claim it handles, against the hospital and insurer involved. Your HealAssistant uses that history when recommending where to be treated, and to help you avoid hospitals with poor claim outcomes. It reaches you as advice from a person — HealAssist does not publish claim statistics or rank hospitals by them.

Two hospitals can look identical on paper — same procedure, same price, both in your insurer’s network — and behave completely differently when the claim is actually filed. HealAssist keeps a record of what really happened, and puts it to work when advising you.

What does HealAssist actually record?

Every pre-authorisation and every final claim HealAssist handles is recorded against the hospital and the insurer involved: whether it was approved, partly approved or rejected, and the reason given for a rejection. Over time that builds a picture of how a particular hospital and a particular insurer behave together.

These records are written by HealAssist staff, from what the insurer and the hospital tell them. No insurer sends HealAssist an automated feed of claim decisions — this is a record of real cases, kept by the people who worked them.

How does that record reach me?

Through your HealAssistant. When they recommend a hospital, or advise against one, that claim history is part of what they are weighing. It is one of the reasons a HealAssistant may steer you away from a hospital that otherwise looks fine on price.

If a hospital has a poor record of claim outcomes with your insurer, ask your HealAssistant directly. They can tell you what they know about how claims have gone there.
