Getting admitted under a government scheme
Last reviewed
हिन्दी में पढ़ेंQuick answer
Only an empanelled hospital can bill your scheme. Before your booking is confirmed, your HealAssist coordinator contacts the hospital to confirm they can take your case under your scheme, and prepares the paperwork with you. If you are still turned away, tell your HealAssistant immediately — do not pay and hope to claim it back.
A government scheme only pays at a hospital that is empanelled with it. Empanelment is an agreement between the hospital and the scheme, and it is the single most important thing to establish before you travel anywhere for treatment.
What does "empanelled" actually mean?
It means the hospital has an agreement with your scheme and can bill it. HealAssist records that agreement per hospital, including whether it covers cashless treatment, reimbursement, or both — and that difference decides who pays on the day.
Under a cashless empanelment the hospital bills the scheme directly for covered items. Under a reimbursement-only empanelment you pay the hospital and claim the money back afterwards. A hospital being "empanelled" is therefore not the same as your treatment there being cashless.
What HealAssist does before your admission
Your coordinator contacts the hospital
Before your booking is confirmed, your HealAssist coordinator contacts the hospital to confirm they can take your case under your scheme. This is a phone call to a human being, not a lookup on a screen.
Your paperwork is prepared with you
Your HealAssistant works through the scheme paperwork with you — your scheme card or beneficiary id, photo id, and any referral the scheme requires — so nothing is missing at the desk.
Pre-authorisation is raised where the scheme needs it
Many scheme admissions need a pre-authorisation from the scheme before surgery. The hospital’s scheme desk raises it, and your HealAssistant follows it through.
